98th ISDE. Silleda in Galicia, Spain, gathered nations and riders from around the world hosting the 6Days FIM Enduro of Nations from October 14 to 19.
This 88th edition will not be easily forgotten. It was a tough, extreme race, which this year more than ever put a strain on riders, teams and technicians, who had to deal not only with six long days of competition but also with the severe weather, cold and heavy rain.
The team directed by Matteo Boffelli confirmed its commitment, providing four riders competing for their respective national teams: Samuele Bernardini, Manolo Morettini and Francesca Nocera with the Italian Maglia Azzurra; Steve Holcombe for the British team.
And right Holcombe was among the rulers of the race. The Briton was consistent from the first day, holding the second overall position only behind Garcia and winning the E2 class ahead of the Swedes Ahlin and Norrbin.
Great performance for Bernardini and Morettini, even if they were out of the games for the World and Junior Trophies as Verona and Verzeroli stopped on day 1. The two Honda RedMoto riders continued to fight throughout the six days of competition in their respective classes. On Saturday, the very tough motocross heat in the endless mud of Silleda, confirmed them in the top ten: Bernardini 7th in E2 and Morettini 10th in E1. Bernardini also hit the top ten of the Overall.
Excellent performance for Francesca Nocera, competing for the Women’s World Trophy with the Italian team. She finished in P9 Overall, confirming the Italian girls into the top five.
Matteo Boffelli and the whole team take this opportunity to thank all the sponsors for their valuable support in this 98th ISDE and renew the appointment for a thrilling next edition on home soil in Bergamo, Italy.
Steve Holcombe #1
“This Six Days was really good for me. The conditions were really difficult, but overall, l I’m happy with my second position Overall and the first of the E2 class. Thank you to the whole team for supporting me”.
Samuele Bernardini #23
“A growing Six Days for me, in which I fought close to the top three with good times. The last day was particularly tough. Before the start, I was fourth Overall, but a crash right at the first corner compromised my position and by the end of the test I was 15th. Too bad about the stop of Verona on day 1, otherwise we would have been fighting for the World Trophy”.
Manolo Morettini #38
“It was a difficult Six Days. I had several crashes that compromised my final result. I want to sincerely thank the Federation, my team and all the staff. The season does not end here. See you in Sanremo for the last round”.
It had been several months since I had raced as a result of my injuries, so I can say I am quite happy with the results. Thank you the Italian Federation and the team for the great job did together. Now we look forward to the last round of the Italian Championship.
